Privacy Policy
The short version
- Cool Cart has no accounts. You never sign up or sign in.
- Your Freezer items, urge check-ins, daily log, streak and settings are stored only on your iPhone.
- Apple's Screen Time gives the app sealed tokens for the apps and sites you pick. We cannot see app names, your browsing, your usage or your purchases.
- The Safari blocker and the share extension make no network calls at all.
- We may use anonymous product analytics (PostHog). They contain event names, counts and fixed labels, never your item names, links, apps or sites.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. No ads, no tracking, no data sold.
Who we are
Cool Cart is an iPhone app made and operated by Gilad Hoze, an individual developer based in Israel ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the Cool Cart app ("the app") does with information, and what this website does. If you have any question, email [email protected].
No account needed
You can use everything in Cool Cart without creating an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or Apple ID, and we have no user profiles on a server.
Data stored only on your iPhone
The app keeps its data in a local database inside the app's own storage on your iPhone. This storage is shared only between the app and its own extensions (the block screen, the Safari blocker and the share extension). It is not synced to iCloud or CloudKit, and it is not sent to us. It includes:
- Freezer items: title, link, a downscaled copy of the image, price, currency, timers and your decision.
- Urge check-ins: time, where the urge came from, how you felt, the optional item text and amount you typed, and the outcome.
- Daily log: whether each day was a no-buy day or had an impulse buy, an optional skipped amount, and whether a streak freeze was used.
- Settings: your typical buy amount, monthly count, hourly pay, goal, unlock limit and currency.
- Blocking data: your Screen Time selection (as opaque tokens, see below), your blocked website list, and your streak and unlock state.
- Preferences: notification preferences, your onboarding answers about where and when you shop, and a cached copy of your Pro status.
None of the following is ever sent anywhere: Freezer items, links, images, the text you type about an urge, your onboarding shop answers, or your Screen Time selections.
Screen Time: what the app can and cannot see
Cool Cart uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity) to block the shopping apps, categories and websites you choose. You confirm this with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, and it applies only to your own device.
When you pick apps, categories or sites, Apple gives the app opaque tokens instead of the real names. With those tokens the app can ask iOS to block what you picked, but it:
- cannot read the names of the apps you pick,
- cannot see your browsing history or what you do in other apps,
- cannot see your screen time, app usage or purchases.
Your picks stay on this iPhone. We never see which apps or sites you choose. If analytics are on, they receive only the number of apps, categories and sites you picked, never which ones.
App extensions
The app's extensions make no network calls at all.
- Block screen: shows Cool Cart's screen when a blocked app or site opens. If you tap "I have an urge", it shows a local notification that opens the check-in.
- Safari blocker (Cool Cart Blocker): an optional Safari content blocker you turn on in iOS Settings. It reads your blocked website list from the app's shared storage on your phone and tells Safari which domains to block. It does not see the pages you visit.
- Share to the Freezer: when you choose Cool Cart in a share sheet, the extension reads only what the share sheet hands over: the link, title, text, an image, and in Safari the open page's title and price details. It never downloads anything, and the item is stored only on your phone.
Analytics (PostHog)
We may use PostHog for anonymous product analytics, to understand which features help and what to improve. When analytics are on:
- The app uses a random anonymous ID. We do not identify you, and there are no person profiles.
- The app sends event names with numbers, yes or no values and fixed labels only. For example, a completed urge check-in may be sent with its feeling label (such as "Bored") and its outcome label.
- The app never sends item names, links, images, typed text, app names or website names.
- Automatic capture, screen view tracking and session replay are turned off.
- The PostHog software in the app attaches standard device and app details: device model, iOS version, app version and locale (language and region settings).
- Like any web server, PostHog's servers receive your IP address when the app sends an event.
We use this information only to run and improve Cool Cart. We do not use it for advertising and we do not combine it with data from other companies.
Purchases and subscriptions
Cool Cart Pro is sold through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple processes your payment and handles your payment details; we never see your card details or Apple ID. Apple's handling of your information is described in Apple's Privacy Policy.
We may use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. If we do, RevenueCat receives an anonymous customer ID and your purchase and subscription status when you buy or restore. RevenueCat receives no name, no email, no user attributes and no advertising or attribution data. If RevenueCat is not used, the app checks your subscription directly with Apple.
No ads, no tracking, no selling
- Cool Cart shows no ads and contains no advertising software.
- The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. It does not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) and does not ask for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency).
- We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
- The app does not include a crash reporting service.
Notifications
All notifications in Cool Cart are local: your iPhone schedules and shows them, and no remote notification server is involved. They include the evening check-in, streak milestones, Freezer items thawing, unlock timers, the "I have an urge" bridge from the block screen, and an optional trial-ending reminder. You can switch each type off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.
Children
Cool Cart is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 where a higher age applies in your country, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and sent us information, contact us and we will delete what we can.
How long data is kept and how to delete it
- Data on your iPhone stays there until you delete it. Deleting the Cool Cart app removes its local data from your phone, including your Freezer, check-ins, daily log, settings and blocks.
- Analytics data is kept in PostHog only as long as it is useful for improving the app. You can ask us to delete analytics data by emailing [email protected]. Because the data is anonymous and not linked to your name or email, we may need your help to find it, and in some cases we may not be able to match it to you.
- Purchase records are kept by Apple (and RevenueCat if used) under their own policies and as required for tax and accounting.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Israel or some US states), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to receive a copy of your data. Because we hold very little information and none of it is linked to your identity, most of your data is already under your control on your iPhone. To make a request, email [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time, and within any period required by law. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app for anonymous analytics, and on performing our agreement with you for providing the app and Pro features.
International users
Cool Cart is run from Israel. Our service providers, such as PostHog, RevenueCat and Apple, may process information in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where required by law, we rely on the data transfer safeguards these providers offer.
This website
coolcart.app is a simple static website. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics or ads. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which, like any host, processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver the pages and protect against abuse. The site loads the Nunito font from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when you visit. See Cloudflare's and Google's privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Cool Cart handles information, we will update this page and its effective date. If a change is significant, for example a new kind of data leaving your phone, we will also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
